As they do every year, Rootbeer and Rawhide discuss their favorite albums from the past 12 months on the December episode of Rootbeer & Rawhide Rate Rappers.

Cabin Fever album from The Rawhide Kid

Six years in the making, Rawhide’s fifth album Cabin Fever is available to stream now on Bandcamp and will be available Thanksgiving Day on Spotify.

Update 11/28/24: Now on Spotify!

Episode 62 of Rootbeer & Rawhide Rate Rappers serves as a companion piece to the project. Rawhide goes super in-depth talking about the background of each song, how his approach was different than on previous albums and dives in to his creative process. Listen below:

Rootbeer & Rawhide Rate Rappers – Episode 61

It’s election season so in Episode 61, Rootbeer and Rawhide discuss some of the most powerful sociopolitical hip-hop songs and connect them to actual historical events. The educational nature of the topic is, of course, undermined when they confuse Huey Newton with Jimmy Neutron.

Rootbeer & Rawhide Rate Rappers – Episode 60

In the greatest cross-section of their two biggest hobbies, Rootbeer and Rawhide discuss their favorite video game references in hip-hop songs. Plus: Rawhide breaks down the first two singles off his upcoming album Cabin Fever, Atlas barks a lot, the very coincidental first time Rootbeer heard Chris Webby and arguing over how “Dhalsim” is pronounced.

Rootbeer & Rawhide Rate Rappers – Episode 59

At long last, the most shouted-out listener of the podcast makes an appearance. Killatron joins Rootbeer and Rawhide as they discuss the greatest hip-hop posse cuts, horny goat weed packaging, Method Man’s secret history as a lacrosse player, Rawhide being overlooked for the Street Fighter 6 playlist, and the resurgence of the belly chain.

Rootbeer & Rawhide Rate Rappers – Episode 58

If there is one better combination than Rootbeer & Rawhide, it’s hip-hop & cars. Episode 58 was recorded on-the-go, featuring an extremely distracted Rootbeer driving to Connecticut, commentary on fellow drivers, and an abundance of road noise. Also: Rawhide discusses his upcoming single and his vision of becoming the “Trent Reznor of Rap” before recounting the entire plot of the movie Take Me Home Tonight.

Rootbeer & Rawhide Rate Rappers – Episode 57

This episode, which was an absolute nightmare to edit, features Rootbeer, Rawhide and special guest Pizzamanthegod answering hip-hop trivia questions. In addition to getting most questions wrong, the guys also play marry/fuck/kill with Final Fantasy characters (male and female), practice their New Jersey accents and reminisce about scrambled porn channels.

Rootbeer & Rawhide Rate Rappers – Episode 56

It only took 56 episodes but Rootbeer & Rawhide have finally invited their first guest to the podcast: DJ D-Wreck. In this episode, all three discuss their favorite rap verses on pop songs. Also: new microphones, the “white savior” movies from the 2000s and how Ludacris fits into the Kingdom Hearts universe.

Rootbeer & Rawhide Rate Rappers – Episode 54

Following up on Episode 53 being about short rap songs, Episode 54 is about tracks with a runtime of 7 minutes or more. However, Rawhide clearly just wants to talk about Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth.
